We’re looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Disaster Recovery Expert to join our client’s security leadership team and take a strategic role in shaping and governing enterprise resilience capabilities. In this external consultancy assignment, you will ensure that disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity strategies are robust, realistic, and aligned with both technical constraints and business priorities in a complex critical infrastructure environment.

Role & Responsibilities

As Senior Cybersecurity Disaster Recovery Expert, you will act as the key authority on DR governance, resilience design, and maturity improvement:

• DR Strategy & Governance
  • Define, maintain, and evolve disaster recovery strategy, standards, and frameworks
  • Ensure RTO/RPO objectives are realistic, validated, and embedded in architecture design
  • Advise on multi-site recovery models, failover strategies, replication approaches, and infrastructure dependencies
  • Provide cost-benefit analysis for DR design decisions (e.g., active-active vs. cold standby, datacenter strategy, replication tiers)
• Oversight, Reporting & Assurance
  • Review DR test results and ensure remediation actions are tracked and implemented
  • Maintain resilience dashboards, KRIs, and heatmaps to monitor DR maturity
  • Ensure consistency across multi-site DR architectures and continuity setups
• Advisory & Stakeholder Support
  • Provide expert guidance on hybrid cloud and on-premise DR architectures
  • Support dependency mapping and ensure alignment across technical and business services
  • Coach and guide stakeholders on DR responsibilities and best practices
  • Promote a strong resilience and continuity culture across the organization
• Maturity & Continuous Improvement
  • Assess DR maturity using recognized frameworks (e.g., ISO 22301)
  • Define and execute a roadmap for continuous improvement
  • Introduce metrics, benchmarks, and governance enhancements
  • Recommend automation and tooling improvements to strengthen resilience capabilities

Profile – The Ideal Candidate

• 20+ years of IT experience, including at least 10 years in Disaster Recovery and resilience
• Proven track record in designing and governing DR strategies in complex, high-dependency environments
• Strong expertise in DR frameworks such as ISO 27031 and NIST 800-34
• Deep understanding of hybrid and multi-site architectures, including replication and failover patterns
• Experience with regulatory resilience requirements (e.g., NIS2)
• Demonstrated ability to conduct maturity assessments and drive improvement programs
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence without direct authority
• Experience operating in large-scale or critical infrastructure environments is highly valued
• Certifications required: CISSP and at least one additional risk-related certification
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent through experience
• Fluent in Dutch, French, and English (spoken and written), with minimum C1/B2 levels as specified
