We’re looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Disaster Recovery Expert to join our client’s team and provide strategic leadership across disaster recovery (DR), business continuity, and IT resilience. You will shape and govern realistic, validated recovery strategies, ensuring they align with business priorities, cybersecurity requirements, and technical architecture. Working across business and technology stakeholders, you’ll provide independent expertise on complex recovery scenarios, challenge assumptions, and help strengthen the organization’s overall resilience maturity.
Responsibilities
-
Define and maintain DR strategies, policies, standards, frameworks, templates, and governance practices.
-
Assess and validate RTO/RPO requirements, ensuring they are realistic and reflected in solution architecture.
-
Advise on multi-site recovery, failover patterns, replication strategies, infrastructure dependencies, and hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.
-
Provide cost-benefit analysis for architectural decisions, including recovery-site configurations, datacenter distance, replication tiers, and recovery approaches.
-
Review DR testing and readiness results, identify gaps, and drive actionable remediation.
-
Establish and maintain KPIs, KRIs, dashboards, resilience heatmaps, and reporting for senior stakeholders.
-
Ensure dependency mapping and architectural alignment across complex, highly interconnected environments.
-
Support stakeholders through complex recovery scenarios and provide pragmatic guidance on DR design and implementation.
-
Coach teams on their DR responsibilities, documentation, testing, and continuous improvement.
-
Assess organizational DR maturity using recognized frameworks and establish a roadmap for continuous improvement.
-
Identify opportunities to improve governance, processes, automation, tooling, metrics, and resilience culture.
-
Work closely with business owners, IT and architecture teams, risk and audit functions, crisis-management teams, infrastructure specialists, and external partners.
Profile
-
20+ years of IT experience, including 10+ years specializing in Disaster Recovery, Resilience, or Business Continuity.
-
Proven experience establishing and improving DR capabilities in complex, highly interconnected environments.
-
Strong knowledge of ISO 27031 and NIST 800-34, as well as resilience-related requirements under NIS2.
-
Hands-on understanding of multi-site and hybrid-cloud architectures, networks, storage, replication, failover, and recovery patterns.
-
Demonstrable experience conducting maturity assessments and improvement programs, supported by concrete examples in your CV.
-
Ability to influence stakeholders and drive change without direct reporting authority.
-
Experience translating business requirements into practical resilience and recovery strategies, including experience working beyond purely technical/IT environments.
-
CISSP certification plus at least one relevant risk-management certification.
-
Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
-
Fluency in Dutch, French, and English, both spoken and written, at C1 level or above.
-
Relevant Disaster Recovery certifications and experience in critical infrastructure or other high-dependency environments are advantageous.
-
Candidates should be able to provide a recommendation letter from a previous employer or client demonstrating a successful track record in establishing Disaster Recovery capabilities in a comparable environment. This should be included as part of the submitted CV.
Assessment
As part of the selection process, candidates may be asked to complete supplementary technical tests, assessments, or case-based exercises. Your CV should clearly demonstrate relevant experience against the requirements above, ideally supported by specific examples, measurable outcomes, and details of the environments in which you delivered DR and resilience initiatives.
