We’re looking for a Backstage Lead Developer to join our client’s team, supporting the evolution of a critical internal developer platform within a fast-moving and technically challenging environment. You will play a key role in shaping, extending, and maintaining a Backstage ecosystem, contributing to scalable and future-proof platform solutions in a collaborative, innovation-driven setting.

Responsibilities & Tasks

In this role, you will take ownership of both architectural and hands-on development activities across the Backstage platform:

• Lead the analysis, design, and evolution of the Backstage platform and its architecture
• Define and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance technical solutions aligned with enterprise standards
• Develop, test, and document custom Backstage plugins (frontend and backend)
• Extend and customize platform components to support business processes, workflows, and organizational structures
• Integrate Backstage with internal systems, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, identity management, and other services
• Provide technical advisory on architecture, integrations, and security best practices
• Analyze existing platform architecture and consolidate findings into actionable recommendations
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation (architecture, APIs, workflows, configurations)
• Ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements such as performance, stability, and maintainability

Profile & Technical Expertise

The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of platform engineering, backend/frontend development, and architectural thinking:

• Proven experience working with Backstage, including customization and extension (minimum 2 years)
• Hands-on experience developing Backstage plugins (frontend & backend)
• Strong backend development skills with Node.js (minimum 4 years), ideally in platform or integration contexts
• Solid frontend development experience using React (minimum 3 years)
• Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, preferably with Azure DevOps
• Practical knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for deployment and platform operations
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, especially in cloud-native environments
• Ability to translate business and technical requirements into robust architectural solutions
• Strong communication skills to present technical concepts and documentation clearly
