Expert Cloud Architect

We’re looking for a highly experienced and hands-on consultant to join our client’s team as an Expert Cloud Solution & DevOps Architect. In this strategic role, you will design, build, and evolve enterprise-grade cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure scalability, security, and operational excellence across a complex IT landscape.

Role & Responsibilities

As a key architecture leader, you will take ownership of cloud platform design and DevOps practices while guiding teams and stakeholders toward robust, future-proof solutions.

• Design, develop, and implement cloud-native solutions using Azure services
• Define and advise on modern architectures, including event-driven and microservices-based designs
• Build and manage infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
• Implement and enforce security, governance, and compliance best practices (e.g. Azure Policy)
• Develop automation scripts and deployment processes to streamline cloud operations
• Collaborate with project managers to assess and plan cloud infrastructure requirements
• Work closely with developers, data engineers, and architects to optimize performance and scalability
• Design and maintain hybrid connectivity with existing on-premise environments
• Implement and manage Azure Landing Zones aligned with best practices
• Leverage Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines and release management
• Contribute to architecture, security, and DevOps governance forums
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, including diagrams and runbooks
• Stay up to date with emerging Azure technologies and provide strategic recommendations
• Mentor and support junior team members in cloud and DevOps best practices

Key Skills & Expertise

• 10+ years of experience in IT, including extensive experience in cloud solution architecture on Azure
• Strong background in software development (e.g. .NET/C#, Java)
• Proven expertise with Azure services such as compute, storage, networking, Kubernetes, serverless, databases, and integration services
• Solid experience with Azure DevOps (pipelines, repositories) and Terraform for infrastructure-as-code
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Flux, Kustomize)
• Experience designing and implementing Azure Landing Zones
• Knowledge of Azure data services (e.g. data integration and analytics platforms)
• Strong understanding of integration patterns (APIs, messaging, event-driven, hybrid connectivity)
• Expertise in cloud security, identity & access management, and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO standards, NIST)
• Experience with automation tools such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Azure Automation
• Familiarity with Agile delivery environments and DevOps ways of working

Profile of the Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to operate effectively in complex, multi-team environments
• Experience coaching and mentoring engineers
• Azure certification such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert is required; additional certifications are a plus
• Language skills: good command of English, with proficiency in either Dutch or French, and working knowledge of the other
