Full Stack PHP & Javascript Developer

Function

We're looking for an experienced Full-Stack Developer to join our client's team and contribute to the continuous development and modernization of a business-critical digital platform. You'll work across the entire technology stack in a demanding production environment where security, reliability and service continuity are key priorities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of existing applications while driving technical improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain web applications across the backend and frontend.
• Build and integrate REST APIs and contribute to the evolution of application architecture.
• Take ownership of an existing codebase, progressively modernizing legacy components and improving overall maintainability.
• Identify and resolve technical issues, including security vulnerabilities and complex production incidents.
• Refactor existing code to improve architecture, separation of concerns, performance and code quality.
• Ensure application stability, security and reliability through testing, code reviews and best development practices.
• Document technical developments and collaborate closely with developers, analysts and other stakeholders.

Technical Profile

• Strong professional experience with PHP and solid knowledge of modern JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience with a modern PHP framework, preferably Laravel; strong Symfony experience is also welcome.
• Experience with a modern JavaScript framework, with Vue.js considered a significant advantage.
• Good knowledge of SQL, REST APIs and Git.
• Ability to work independently across the full stack, from backend development to frontend implementation.
• Proven experience maintaining and evolving complex applications in production environments.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, secure coding practices, error handling, testing and maintainable code.
• Ability to quickly understand an existing codebase, analyse technical challenges and implement pragmatic solutions.
• A proactive, autonomous and motivated mindset, with a willingness to learn and strengthen skills in less familiar technologies.
• Previous experience with legacy application modernization, high-availability environments or security-sensitive systems is a plus. Public-sector experience is also an asset.

Practical Information

• Location: Brussels, with hybrid working arrangements (up to 3 remote working days per week)
• Languages: Professional English is required, both written and spoken. Dutch or French is accepted, with neither language preferred.
• AI tools: Their use must comply with applicable internal security policies and approval procedures.
