Functional Analyst & Designer

Function

We’re looking for a skilled Functional Analyst to join our client’s application delivery team within a complex insurance environment. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping, analyzing, and supporting IT solutions for core administrative systems. You will work closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and testing specialists to ensure that functional requirements are translated into robust, maintainable, and production-ready solutions.

Your Role

You will act as a key link between business and IT, ensuring that system designs accurately reflect business needs while maintaining platform stability and performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Analysing functional requirements and translating them into clear and structured IT solution designs (UI, business logic, and database layers);
• Following up on implementation activities and defining comprehensive testing strategies;
• Collaborating with project managers on scope, planning, and milestone tracking, while reporting progress to stakeholders;
• Writing and reviewing SQL queries and participating in source code reviews (Cobol Micro Focus);
• Monitoring application stability and coordinating incident resolution and remediation activities in production environments;
• Supporting both project delivery and ongoing maintenance of critical insurance systems;
• Contributing to architectural alignment and ensuring adherence to technical and functional standards.

Technical Environment & Expertise

Our client is looking for a professional with strong experience in:

• Functional analysis and IT solution design in large-scale environments;
• Administrative and transactional systems (preferably insurance or banking);
• Cobol Micro Focus and SQL Server environments;
• Web-based client/server systems and batch processing;
• Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies;
• Application development concepts and technical discussions with development teams;
• MS Office tools for documentation and analysis work.

The Ideal Candidate

• Master’s or Engineering degree in IT or a scientific/technical field;
• Strong experience in functional analysis or lead functional analyst roles within complex IT projects;
• Background in insurance or banking, ideally with exposure to life insurance, contract management, or claims processes;
• Analytical, methodical, and pragmatic mindset with strong problem-solving abilities;
• Excellent communication skills and a client-oriented approach;
• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality and structure;
• Fluent in English and Dutch.
