Functional Tester

Function

We’re looking for a Senior Functional Tester to join our client’s team and take ownership of quality assurance for business-critical applications used in a complex operational environment. This is a hands-on role combining functional testing, test automation, API validation, Agile collaboration, and quality leadership. You’ll play a key role in ensuring applications are reliable, fit for purpose, and ready for release.

Role & Responsibilities

• Define and implement the overall test approach for applications, taking operational requirements and real-world scenarios into account.
• Translate business and technical requirements into clear, comprehensive, and actionable test cases.
• Plan and execute functional, integration, regression, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.
• Contribute to the refinement of user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring requirements are clear and testable.
• Take end-to-end ownership of testing activities, from planning and execution through defect resolution and release validation.
• Identify risks, gaps in test coverage, and potential quality issues, and recommend pragmatic improvements.
• Design and maintain automated tests for front-end applications using tools such as Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO.
• Perform API testing using tools such as Postman or ApiDog.
• Use SQL for data validation and troubleshooting where required.
• Manage defects effectively, including prioritization, follow-up, reporting, and collaboration with development teams.
• Work closely with Product Owners, developers, and business stakeholders to establish shared quality objectives.
• Act as the lead tester within the team, promoting strong testing practices and supporting other testers through coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including refinement, planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, tools, collaboration, and overall quality practices.

Profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced QA professional with a strong background in both manual and automated testing. You have a minimum of 10 years of experience in software quality assurance or software development, including substantial hands-on experience with functional testing and test automation.

• At least 10 years of overall experience in software QA and/or development.
• Strong experience in functional test design, test planning, execution, regression testing, exploratory testing, and release validation.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with API testing using Postman, ApiDog, or comparable tools.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in Agile delivery teams and collaborating closely with Product Owners.
• Practical and advanced experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, and Confluence for test management, reporting, and collaboration.
• Strong SQL skills for data validation and analysis.
• Experience with cross-browser, mobile, accessibility, and integration testing.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear, concise, and constructive feedback to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and experience working with multiple stakeholders in complex environments.
• A minimum of 18 months of professional experience in the railway sector.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Excellent English skills, clearly demonstrated on your CV.
