Function

We're looking for an experienced Network Engineer to support our client's mission-critical infrastructure environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on networking professional who enjoys designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network solutions while working at the intersection of networking, security, and automation. You'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of a highly available enterprise network landscape.

The Role

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of network infrastructure, collaborating with operations and security teams to deliver resilient and secure connectivity solutions. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining routed and switched network environments.
  • Configuring and managing next-generation firewalls, IPSec VPNs, and network security solutions.
  • Deploying and supporting optical fibre networks, including WDM technologies.
  • Performing physical installation, cabling, and maintenance of network equipment across data centre and enterprise environments.
  • Automating operational tasks and workflows using Python and modern infrastructure tooling.
  • Managing network monitoring platforms and open-source solutions, while supporting SIEM integrations, log analysis, and incident investigations.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation and providing support for escalations, operational changes, and infrastructure improvements.

The Ideal Candidate

Our client is seeking a proactive and technically skilled engineer with a strong foundation in enterprise networking and infrastructure operations. You will bring:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience or equivalent practical expertise.
  • Proven experience with routing and switching technologies and enterprise network design.
  • Hands-on knowledge of next-generation firewalls, IPSec VPNs, and network security principles.
  • Practical experience with optical fibre networks, WDM technologies, and physical network deployments.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly with Python.
  • Experience with Linux administration, network monitoring solutions, SIEM platforms, and open-source networking and automation tools such as Ansible, NetBox, or similar technologies.
  • A solid understanding of troubleshooting, performance optimisation, and maintaining secure, high-availability network environments.

Skills & Qualifications

The successful candidate combines technical expertise with a practical, collaborative approach to infrastructure management. Preferred qualifications and attributes include:

  • CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent networking certifications.
  • Experience with fibre testing and certification equipment such as OTDR and power meters.
  • Knowledge of network security frameworks, industry best practices, and ITIL or change management processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a structured approach to documentation and configuration management.
  • A valid Category B driving licence and willingness to work full-time on-site.
  • Fluency in English and either Dutch or French, both written and spoken.
  • Eligibility to work within highly secure environments, including the ability to obtain or maintain the required security clearance.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development and operation of a sophisticated network infrastructure while working with modern networking, security, and automation technologies in a technically demanding environment.
