Function
We’re looking for an experienced OpenVMS Programming Specialist to join our client’s team and contribute to the maintenance and evolution of a business-critical legacy technology environment. You’ll play a key role in keeping core systems stable, reliable, and performant while supporting the delivery of technical evolutions and system releases.
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and evolve OpenVMS environments, including kernel- and API-level components.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver software evolutions and technical releases.
- Write robust, maintainable code using OpenVMS-supported programming languages such as C, C++, Pascal, COBOL, Fortran, and Java.
- Develop and maintain DCL scripts for system administration, batch processing, and command-line automation.
- Work with Oracle Rdb, SQL, Oracle Precompiler, and SQLMOD for database-related development and querying.
- Use established OpenVMS tooling, including CDD Dictionary, Message Files, IFDL, MMS, and CMS.
- Work with messaging and integration technologies such as BEA MessageQ and parser-generation tools including Yacc/Bison.
- Diagnose production issues and contribute to the reliability and continuity of business-critical applications.
Ideal Candidate
- 5+ years of proven experience with OpenVMS Itanium environments.
- 10+ years of professional experience in OpenVMS programming and development.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with DCL scripting, including system, batch, and command-line scripting.
- 10+ years of experience with Oracle Rdb and SQL querying.
- 10+ years of experience with OpenVMS tooling such as CDD Dictionary, Message Files, IFDL, MMS, and CMS.
- Proven experience with BEA MessageQ, Yacc/Bison, Oracle Precompiler, and SQLMOD.
- 10+ years of experience in governmental, public-sector, and/or public-transport environments.
- C1 level in French or Dutch, combined with a strong command of English.
- A proven track record of maintaining production-critical systems and providing concrete examples of relevant projects and technical achievements.
