Programming Specialist OpenVMS
Function
We're looking for an experienced Programming Specialist to join our client's technology team and support the operation, maintenance, and evolution of mission-critical OpenVMS systems within a highly demanding on-premise environment.
You will contribute to the stability, security, automation, and modernization of essential applications while supporting platform evolution and migration initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work on a business-critical application that is part of a broader transformation program aimed at the future decommissioning and replacement of legacy systems.
Role & Responsibilities
As an OpenVMS Programming Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and continuous improvement of enterprise-level systems. Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating, maintaining, and supporting OpenVMS platforms, including system components, layered products, applications, and infrastructure.
- Developing and maintaining OpenVMS-based solutions to support business-critical operations.
- Ensuring system stability, security, availability, and performance in production environments.
- Configuring monitoring solutions, event notifications, and automation processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Managing backup strategies, disaster recovery configurations, and system resilience measures.
- Installing, validating, and supporting OpenVMS upgrades, patches, and platform improvements.
- Supporting OpenVMS migration initiatives, including transitions towards x86-based environments.
- Working with advanced OpenVMS tooling, including CockpitMgr.
- Providing technical expertise and recommendations related to OpenVMS solutions.
- Contributing to knowledge sharing and supporting technical discussions with internal teams and stakeholders.
Required Profile
The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing complex OpenVMS environments and supporting critical applications in large organizations.
You bring:
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience with OpenVMS systems.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in OpenVMS support, administration, and programming.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with OpenVMS platform migrations, including x86 migrations.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with OpenVMS CockpitMgr.
- Strong expertise in OpenVMS operations, including kernel management, layered products, applications, and infrastructure.
- Proven experience with automation, monitoring, system notifications, and operational optimization.
- Strong knowledge of security management, performance optimization, backup strategies, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with OpenVMS upgrades, patch management, and validation processes.
- Experience working in governmental organizations and/or public transport environments.
- Previous involvement in pre-sales and/or marketing activities related to OpenVMS solutions is considered an asset.
Languages & Working Environment
You have strong communication skills and are able to work in a multilingual environment.
Required language skills:
- Minimum B2 level in Dutch and/or French.
- Minimum B2 level in English.
