Project Manager Digital Payments
Function
Our client is looking for an experienced senior project leader to drive two strategic payment initiatives within a digital sales environment: the renewal of acquiring and payment service provider services, and the coordination of PCI-DSS compliance efforts for the existing payment ecosystem. This is a key role for someone who can combine strong project governance, stakeholder management, and deep knowledge of payment environments to help shape the future of secure digital payments.
Responsibilities
You will lead the full lifecycle of both initiatives, from early scoping and analysis through to implementation and transition. Your work will include defining needs, preparing procurement materials, coordinating technical and operational rollout, and ensuring compliance requirements are embedded throughout the programme.
- Analyse the current payment setup and existing contracts.
- Collect, consolidate, and challenge business, technical, financial, and regulatory requirements from key stakeholders.
- Define the target strategy for acquiring and PSP services.
- Prepare decision papers and associated public procurement documents.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders across purchasing, finance, legal, security, architecture, and payment-related functions.
- Assess the impact on sales and payment systems and support the definition of the target payment architecture.
- Manage the transition from the current payment services to the future acquiring and PSP setup.
- Oversee risks, dependencies, budgets, and planning throughout the assignment.
- Prepare and follow up on transition, integration, testing, and production deployment phases.
- Lead project and steering committees and provide regular reporting to management.
- Drive PCI-DSS certification work for the relevant payment scope, including coordination of internal and external parties, remediation tracking, and risk management.
- Establish a structured and sustainable approach to support future annual PCI-DSS certifications and ensure these requirements are considered in the evolution of the payment ecosystem.
Technical Skills
The assignment requires strong experience in complex project management within electronic payment environments and regulated settings. A solid understanding of acquiring, PSP services, payment processing, reconciliation, and PCI-DSS compliance is essential.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in complex project management, including at least 3 years in payments, acquiring, PSP, or card payment environments.
- Proven experience with PCI-DSS compliance or similar payment security initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of payment ecosystems, including acquiring, payment schemes, PSP services, financial reconciliation, and security constraints.
- Experience drafting requirements documentation and managing large-scale tender or RFP processes.
- Advanced skills in budget management, business requirements, communication, risk and dependency management, supplier relationship management, and test management.
Profile
We are seeking a professional who can operate confidently in a complex environment, build alignment across multiple stakeholders, and keep delivery on track from analysis to implementation. The ideal candidate combines analytical strength with a structured and hands-on project management approach.
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
- Comfortable working with technical, business, financial, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Experience in public-sector procurement and contract-related documentation is highly valuable.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel while maintaining clear governance and reporting.
- Certification in PRINCE2 Practitioner and/or PMP is considered relevant.
