RPG Developer & Support Specialist
Function
We’re looking for an experienced IBM i / AS400 professional to join our client’s team. In this role, you will primarily focus on supporting and maintaining the existing environment, resolving technical issues, and implementing smaller developments and improvements. You’ll spend most of your time troubleshooting and supporting users, while also contributing to ongoing initiatives where your technical expertise is needed.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical support and troubleshoot issues within the existing IBM i / AS400 environment.
- Analyse problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain and improve existing applications and processes.
- Develop and implement smaller enhancements and changes based on business requirements.
- Support ongoing projects and development initiatives when required.
- Work with existing RPG IV ILE applications and related databases.
- Handle SQL/400 and DB2/400 development and troubleshooting.
- Work with IFS and 5250 environments, including green screens, display files, and printer files.
- Perform job control, job management, and servicing of jobs.
- Contribute to the stability, continuity, and reliability of the existing environment.
Technical Profile
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience with RPG IV ILE.
- Strong knowledge of SQL/400 and DB2/400.
- Experience with IBM i / AS400 environments.
- Knowledge of Java running on AS400 is an advantage.
- Good understanding of Integrated File System (IFS).
- Solid experience with 5250 emulation, including green screens, display files, and printer files.
- Knowledge of job control, job management, and job servicing.
- Comfortable working in an environment where support and troubleshooting are a major part of the role.
Workload & Languages
The role is approximately:
- 70% support, helpdesk, troubleshooting, and problem solving
- 30% development and support for ongoing projects
You are pragmatic, hands-on, and service-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and a structured approach to troubleshooting. You enjoy working with established systems and are equally comfortable maintaining existing applications and delivering targeted improvements.
Full-time position.
