Senior Application Architect

Function

We’re looking for a seasoned consultant to join our client’s development environment as a Senior Application Architect. In this role, you will combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, guiding development teams while shaping robust and scalable application architectures. You’ll play a key role in both modernizing existing systems and designing new solutions aligned with business needs.

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of Java developers, including task allocation and oversight
• Organize and drive code reviews to ensure quality and consistency
• Design and define application architecture for both new developments and improvements of existing systems
• Translate business requirements into coherent and scalable technical solutions
• Ensure alignment between architectural vision and multiple business domains
• Collaborate closely with existing teams in an Agile environment

Technical Environment

• Strong expertise in Java EE / Jakarta EE (10+ years)
• Solid experience with RDBMS, SQL, JPA (10+ years), including PostgreSQL
• Proven experience with REST APIs / Web Services (8+ years)
• Good knowledge of OAuth-based security
• Frontend experience with Angular (modern versions, ~5+ years)
• Backend frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot
• Familiarity with Kafka and event-driven architectures
• Experience with Hexagonal Architecture and modern application design principles
• Agile tools and methodologies (Scrum, Jira)

Profile & Key Competencies

• Demonstrated experience as an Application Architect or similar senior role
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor development teams
• High level of abstraction and analytical thinking to design innovative solutions
• Ability to understand complex business needs and translate them into architecture
• Comfortable integrating into established teams and environments
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and maintainability

Requirements

• Belgian nationality is required due to project-related legal constraints
• Languages:

  • English (mandatory)

  • Dutch (mandatory)

  • French is a strong asset
