Function
We’re looking for an experienced Data Architect join our client’s data platform team. In this role, you will play a key part in designing and evolving modern, cloud-based data solutions on Azure and Databricks, supporting a broader transition from legacy data platforms to a scalable and secure lakehouse architecture. You will work closely with architects, engineers and stakeholders to ensure technical excellence and business alignment.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design, implement and optimize cloud-based data architectures on Azure in close collaboration with enterprise-level stakeholders
- Take a hands-on role in configuring Azure services, including networking, identity & access management and security components
- Define end-to-end data solution architectures, ensuring scalability, security, governance and alignment with enterprise standards
- Produce clear and structured architecture documentation and contribute to architectural decision-making
Data Platform & Transition Activities
- Lead and support the migration of existing ETL workloads to Databricks
- Redesign ETL/ELT processes using Databricks, focusing on performance, reliability and maintainability
- Configure and optimize Databricks environments (clusters, workspaces, notebooks, CI/CD pipelines)
- Support the transition from legacy platforms to a new Azure/Databricks landscape, proposing pragmatic step-by-step or hybrid solutions when required
Collaboration, Ownership & Support
- Provide guidance and best practices on Azure and Databricks usage to development teams
- Actively contribute to agile ceremonies, including refinement, sprint planning and reviews
- Take ownership of the data platform vision and roadmap, ensuring value delivery and stakeholder alignment
- Support incident resolution, monitoring, observability, data quality initiatives and cost optimization
- Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement of standards, tooling and ways of working
Profile & Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure (including Key Vault, networking, IAM and security concepts) and Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, PySpark, notebooks)
- Proven experience migrating ETL workloads to Databricks and working with lakehouse architectures
- Solid understanding of cloud security principles and CI/CD with Git-based workflows
- Nice to have: Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep), container technologies (Docker or Kubernetes), and data governance tools such as Purview or Collibra
- Proactive and autonomous mindset, with the ability to lead architectural initiatives end to end
- Strong communication skills, able to translate complex technical topics to both technical and business audiences
- Languages: very good English, with French and Dutch required
