Senior Network Engineer

Function

We’re looking for a Senior System Engineer / System Design Engineer to join our client’s team and take ownership of complex network and security infrastructures. In this role, you will combine strong design capabilities with hands-on engineering expertise, ensuring robust, secure, and high-performing environments. You will act as a key technical authority, driving architectural decisions and continuous improvements across critical systems.

Responsibilities & Tasks

You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of system and network engineering, from design to operations:

• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable system designs
• Evaluate design options, trade-offs, and performance considerations
• Validate and support implementation and deployment to ensure requirements are met
• Design, implement, secure, and maintain network and security infrastructures
• Work extensively with Fortinet technologies (FortiGate, FortiManager)
• Manage and optimize SD-WAN architectures, BGP routing, and IPsec VPN solutions
• Define and enforce firewall policies and security best practices
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation across systems and processes
• Maintain clear technical documentation and knowledge sharing
• Support on-call activities when required

Technical Expertise

The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience and strong architectural insight:

• Proven expertise in Fortinet environments, including FortiGate and FortiManager administration
• Strong knowledge of network protocols and technologies: BGP, SD-WAN, IPsec VPN
• Solid understanding of network security, firewall design, and policy management
• Experience with complex IT infrastructures and system software environments
• Ability to optimize performance, capacity, and system reliability
• Familiarity with development tools and practices to solve technical challenges

Profile & Additional Information

Our client is looking for a proactive and skilled professional who thrives in complex environments:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in system engineering or system design
• Strong analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities
• Adaptable, collaborative, and result-driven approach
• Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of technical domains
• Strong communication skills and ability to document and present technical concepts clearly
• Exposure to software development practices is considered a plus
• Hybrid working model with regular onsite collaboration in a multilingual, internationally oriented environment

Language requirements: English and Dutch are required.
