Solution Architect

Function

Our client is looking for an experienced Solution Architect to shape and guide the design of scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across a retail and sender environment. This opportunity sits at the intersection of business and technology, with a strong focus on architectural consistency, delivery support, and long-term platform evolution across cloud, backend, and customer-facing applications.

Responsibilities

• Design maintainable and secure solutions that support retail operations, customer journeys, and omnichannel services.
• Contribute to the design of digital customer channels for B2B and B2C users, delivered through successive MVPs with the aim of building a reusable group asset.
• Identify opportunities for optimisation and innovation, including self-service harmonisation, remote assistance, and AI-enabled retail experiences.
• Define architectural standards, design patterns, and governance approaches aligned with broader enterprise strategy.
• Support development teams with high-level solution design and technical direction.
• Review architecture and technical designs to ensure performance, resilience, scalability, and usability.
• Advise on architectural trade-offs and decision-making throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Guide teams during build and implementation phases, including issue resolution and performance tuning.
• Contribute to planning for disaster recovery, high availability, and security architecture.
• Work closely with business, product, and technology stakeholders to translate needs into viable solutions.
• Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to integrate CI/CD practices and infrastructure automation.
• Facilitate architecture reviews, design workshops, and cross-functional discussions.
• Promote knowledge sharing, mentorship, and continuous improvement.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
• Experience with containers and automation tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on understanding of API-driven design, microservices, and event-driven or service-oriented architecture.
• Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, monitoring, and performance optimisation.
• Solid grasp of key architectural concerns such as scalability, fault tolerance, security, compliance, and device integration.
• Experience with modern backend and frontend technologies, including Java, Node.js, Android, and mobile/web front-end development.
• Exposure to customer data, CRM, CIAM, pricing and promotions, POS platforms, identity, payments, or modern application development.
• Experience with retail applications such as tablet, kiosk, and network setups.

Profile

• At least 5 years of experience in software architecture or solution design.
• Proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade systems, ideally in retail, logistics, or customer-facing environments.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Demonstrated leadership in guiding teams, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical direction.
• Nice to have: certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or TOGAF.
• Nice to have: experience in Agile or SAFe environments.
• Nice to have: experience in digital transformation, legacy modernisation, or retail platform evolution.
• Nice to have: industry experience in logistics, postal services, or retail networks.
